LANE COVE WEST OSHC CENTRE

Primary OSHCare commenced the management of the Lane Cove West OSHC Centre in January 2009. The Centre aims to provide a fun, relaxing, caring and stimulating environment for all children, as well as to be a resource for families. The centre philosophy is based upon the recognition of children's unique interests and capabilities and the program is structured and planned accordingly each day. Children are offered a range of activities which suit their individual learning and social needs. Homework and other clubs, such as cooking, science and reading are offered to children with special interests. A wide variety of outdoor and sports activities are planned and implemented within the range of outdoor school settings. Staff work closely with the school to enhance children's learning and to assist in the integration of a whole school community.

Breakfast and afternoon tea is offered each day, consideration is given to children's individual health and dietary requirements and children are encouraged to assist in the preparation and serving of snacks to develop social and self help skills consistent with these activities.

The Centre is co-ordinated by Judy Thompson, who holds a Diploma of OOSH and many years experience in the field of education. Judy is assisted by Fiona Russell, also a qualified Childcare worker. A number of casual workers who are studying teaching and related subjects also work part time at the Centre. Centre Policies and procedures are comprehensive and are based on the Quality Improvement and Accreditation system implemented by the National Childcare Accreditation Council. The Centre has commenced the Self Study process and submitted its first self study report in March 09. A stimulating and exciting Vacation Care program is offered during each school holiday period. A variety of excursion and Centre based theme days are offered to the children. Popular days have been Science Day, Movie Character Day, Pizza in the Park Day, Pyjama Day.

Enrolment at the Centre is by the completion of forms and payment of an annual Administration Fee. Bookings can be made for permanent (regular) sessions or casually on or before the day that care is needed.
